Kapten & Son was founded in 2014 and has developed at a rapid pace into an internationally operating brand. Today, the product portfolio includes backpacks, watches, glasses, sunglasses, suitcases and accessories and every day more than 150 employees work on the further expansion of the brand.

2014
HOW IT ALL STARTED.

 

The three students Artjem, Fabian and Johannes shared a dream: to create the perfect watch in terms of design and quality. This dream was fulfilled in 2014 with the first Kapten & Son watch 'Campus'. Originally, it was only supposed to be a watch for themselves, but interest was also expressed among their circle of friends. The first 100 watches were assembled by themselves and were sold out after only a few days. This laid the foundation for future success.

2015
THE FIRST STEPS.

 

The demand quickly grew, the space in the office became smaller and the workload could no longer be handled by the three founders alone. So the move to the first larger office was at hand and the first employee was hired.

2016
THE FIRST SUNGLASSES COLLECTION.

 

In April 2016, an additional product category was added to the product portfolio with the launch of the first sunglasses collection. Like watches, sunglasses represent an emotional lifestyle product and were therefore the perfect addition.

2017
THE FIRST POP-UP STORE AND THE FIRST BACKPACK COLLECTION.

 

To bring the Kapten & Son brand even closer to customers, the first Kapten & Son pop-up store opened in May 2017 in Cologne, Germany. Only a few months later, in October 2017, the product portfolio was expanded by a new category: backpacks. They serve as perfect companions for any occasion.

2018
A NEW HEADQUARTERS AND THE FIRST KAPTEN & SON STORE.

 

In order to grow further, the two company locations in Münster, Germany merged into one location in Cologne, Germany in May 2018. Then, in September 2018, the first permanent Kapten & Son flagship store was also opened in Cologne.

2019
THE KAPTEN & SON FAMILY GROWS AND THE FIRST GLASSES COLLECTION LAUNCHED.

 

With four more Kapten & Son stores in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Stuttgart, Germany, as well as a pop up store in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the expansion of the retail stores continued. The product portfolio also grew – following a successful development of sunglasses, the glasses category was expanded to include blue light filter glasses. In addition, the Kapten & Son family grew: the 100 employee mark was cracked.

2020
EXPANSION AND FURTHER PRODUCT CATEGORIES.

 

In addition to opening the first international Kapten & Son store in Vienna, Austria, Kapten & Son's modern food concept 'The Hub' by Kapten & Son opened in the direct vicinity of the company's headquarters in Cologne, Germany. A few kilometers away, the Kapten & Son Glazing Laboratory opened its doors. This step represents another important milestone in the development of the glasses category. Two new product categories were also added to the range: the first suitcase and jewelry collection were launched.

2021

 

Today, all operations are managed from the headquarters in Cologne, the heart of Kapten & Son. A total of over 150 talented, highly motivated and ambitious employees are now working on the further expansion of the brand. Stay tuned, Kaptens!
