Kapten & Son wishes

Merry Christmas

Every year at Christmas, we ask ourselves what we can do to make our loved ones happy this year. The search for the “perfect” gift is often not an easy one, since there is a huge choice of things to put a smile on our faces. For us, however, the decision this year was pretty easy, because we want to push our heart project: our KAPTEN-FOREST should grow.

OUT OF LOVE

The last 2 years have brought big changes. We were asked to reorient our focus, were allowed to learn to rethink – some topics have moved into the foreground, such as climate protection. This led to the creation of our KAPTEN forest last year – a forest in Indonesia that is increasingly filling up. Last year alone, we had more than 25,000 trees planted there.

THE KAPTEN FOREST

We’ve grown closer and we’ve learned. We were allowed to understand how valuable our health is and that it is what allows us to move freely in the first place – our key to a self-determined life.

There is a strong connection between our human health and the health of our planet! However, if you look at the current figures and developments over the past decades, it quickly becomes clear that we have considered these areas separately for far too long. We need to make the connection: to understand that we urgently need to make a change if we want to protect our health, our well-being and our earth and create a healthy habitat.

It is time to give back to nature: to our world. That’s why last year we launched the Kapten Forest – a place where thousands of new trees will be planted in our name, helping to protect our climate and providing a new habitat for many species of animals and plants.

Our present for you

In our Kapten Forest, we want to symbolically bring together all those we really care about – our Kaptens. Of course, you are one of them, which is why we are giving you 100 trees this Christmas. 100 trees that we plant for you in our forest to give something back to the earth. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for our cooperation and hope to work together on many more projects.

By the end of 2021, a total of 100,000 trees will grow in our KAPTEN-FOREST

EDEN REFORESTATION PROJECTS

Humans have always cleared more trees than planted them. Unfortunately, this has not changed to this day, even though we now know very well that forests are essential for life on earth – for biodiversity and for the climate. Among other things, they help to compensate for the CO2 emissions we produce – an issue that we at Kapten & Son have been working on for several years. The dedicated reforestation network “Eden Projects” has made it its business to plant new trees and thus save “the green lungs” of the earth – a project that is so valuable & important and that we support wholeheartedly!

Your Guide

Christmas mail from seed paper

As you may have seen, our Christmas mail for you is made from growing seed paper – a special paper made from flower seeds that is composted under the right conditions and will soon give you beautiful flower greetings from us!

What is seed paper?

Seed paper is not just “paper” – rather, it is made from recycled materials such as waste paper scraps and cotton fibers, so no tree has to be cut down to make it. Wild summer flower seeds are lovingly handcrafted into the paper.

Now here are simple step-by-step instructions to help you make your Christmas card bloom:

STEP 1: PREPARATION

Ideally, you’ll wait until spring or summer to grow your floral greetings – planting in winter or early spring is not recommended, as it’s too cold for the seeds.

Pick a nice place to let your flower seeds grow. Whether indoors or outdoors, it’s important that they get plenty of sun, but not too much heat. Small tip: outside is basically a bit more difficult, because here you are more dependent on the weather. If you have doubts, a pot with good potting soil is the safest option, because you can quickly put it indoors and be flexible in terms of location, should the need arise.

STEP 2: PLANTING

If you decide to use a pot, fill it 2/3 with potting soil. Place the seed paper on top – you can also tear it into small pieces and sprinkle it on the soil. Then cover the paper with a thin layer of potting soil – half a centimeter should be enough – and press it down gently.

STEP 3: WATER

Once you’ve planted your Christmas card from us, it’s now important to water it well so that the paper is moist but not drowning. For the next 10 days at least, it is now important to keep the seed paper moist at all times, as this is a prerequisite for the seeds to germinate. To help the seed sprout, a sunny spot indoors or in the garden will help!

STEP 4: GROWTH

As soon as the first germinated seeds are visible, reduce the amount of water slightly, as the sprouts can drown quickly. However, you should still keep the potting soil (and paper) moist. IMPORTANT: When the sprouts develop into firmer plants, watering can be reduced further – occasional watering will then be enough. However, please make absolutely sure that the plants do not become too dry.

STEP 5: ENJOY!

After a few weeks the plants will start to bloom – you can “harvest” them now and put them in a vase or just enjoy them in the pot. Either way, we hope you enjoy our lovely floral greetings.
